The news and the Internet is filled FILLED with stories of the innocent killed in war and ALL the wars the United States is participating/conducting. We even do public "displays" like peacocks showing our might when countries that own resources want to pull out of a deal with us.... We use what ever electronic, fire power, torture, incarceration (indefinite), sneaking around, bombing, stealth killing machines, drone bombing brigades... to jail hurt maim kill people..... but WIN their hearts (!!!!????) and be our friends ('cause we got money).... I'd say that is pretty scary creepy typically American.
I wish that would just stop.
I did this image, too, during the Bush Administration... and please see below what I think the monster of war looks like (even today) if you fly a helicopter over a certain building ... Pablo Picasso was the inspiration for this....
This blog was first created to express my horror over what my country evolved into during the Bush Administration. It is political and social commentary from the point of view of an artist.

The World of War - Eating the Young
Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes is another of my favorite artists and one who abhorred those who conducted war. This piece is from several of Goya's works and I added our modern counter parts. I used Condeleza Rice as Jupiter because she was the only one who pointed to a highly-classified CIA briefing -- entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States" -- there were, Rice admitted, references to earlier warnings of al Qaeda plans to hijack passenger airliners.... and did not blow the whistle on the rest of the Bush Administration. We could have stopped 9/11 and not gone to war. Bush was too drunk, Cheny too evil, and the rest of the hand maidens too self involved to care. RIce folded and that was her sin.
If you have the opportunity to change things for the good and do not take that opportunity, you are just as culpable if not more of all the sins.

Freedom of Speech and other Myths
I always loved Norman Rockwell because of his mastery of human expression. The illustrations were many times corny and theatrical, but they held a mythological view of what the US thinks. Having a mythology is not bad. Not knowing the truth is.
This image came from the time of the Bush Administration wanting to listen and poke into, and read all US mail, email, phone, and printed documents.
Stupid. The ENTIRE Nation is BAD but the people who are in the seat of power are the only good people. Typical conservative thought. Here is a link to the original.

The Cost of the War Machine
I have posted this diary a few times. I have taken it down myself and at another time, it just disappeared. The last time the Images of the Id was removed this single image remained in the ether.... for some reason... Maybe, the idea is too strong?
The cost of the War Machine today is more then our children's children can absorb. You and I will never see its end. The people who run this country are the people who love to kill for a living. They must. They invest most of our GNP in the Killing Machine. When they no longer create killing machines, for some reason, they turn to doing the paper work for the military and for cities like Los Angeles (1990 LA Times articles one, two). ...hmmmm... IS there a connection....?
Why this image? The Pentagon was caught saying very terrible things toward President Obama at the beginning of his term in office. It's not so obvious if you try Google for examples, now, but I remember. This article from NYT implies issues. There was a decision by the President to change our killing ways but the Military stood their ground (they own bloody lot, I guess). Then the President leaned their way. That is when I made this image.
I often wonder what we REALLY get for all this killing. Not everything we pay for works, either. Now, we have drones that kill women and children which are either called "collateral" or "combatants". Also, I was horrified watching our President intently watching the raid and massacre in the Osama bin Laden camp.... this wasn't what I would have voted for. What have we become?
The Military does not add positive things to our nation. It doesn't add food, water, health. Only returns broken, sick, and permanently disabled people.... not to mention, the wink for all the misogyny for those women who join or marry or work for the military.
I created this image a long time ago. When this site was undone, it seemed to live on in the "internets" for some reason.... even when I tossed the original image.. but there it drifted.... so, I caught it and put it up. Truth lives on..?

The Cheny and Rove Twins
My thoughts about the presidential leadership support of G. W. Bush; the Vice President, Dick Cheny and President Bush's publicist, Karl Rove were that they were equally nasty and evil.... I guess to have the most conservative people supporting the conservative President I guess, is fitting. But as I have pointed out before, I believe 1) they did not develop the normal connectivity to their related beings as most people do. They were the conservative drivers that put the US on a path to self destruction because 2) the conservative point of view is the world is a bad place and they are the only "good."
They were so much alike I thought they must send each other poison pen letters. Oh, yes. I forgot. ... there were poison pen letters during the Bush Administration.... These images were not from any painter in particular.

What will happen in Iraq/Afghanistan when Bush leaves office?
Well, I didn't think he cared that much. I don't think the present crop of politicians and their hand maidens do either. When their time is "UP" in their "jobs" they will make a chauffeured beeline to personal safety. I can just see the Bush Team in those special black SUVs drinking Champagne leaving the mess to Obama.
Now what????
This painting, I do believe (it has been a while since I created this image) is a Delacroix.

The Conservative "engine"
I never really thought that any ideology was behind "conservatism." I believed that it was a label for actions and policies of a people who have only accidentally found each other. Conservatives have a point of view of the world as being outside/other and they, not being a part. The Neoconservative "movement" included some intellectuals who found the Soviet Russia and Marxism a convenient target for their anger at the world. In fact a target group is VERY IMPORTANT to Conservatives to have a focus to "prove" just how bad "others" are.
During the Bush years, Wolfowitz was pointed to as the leader of the various political motives and moves to war with Vice President Cheny.... I think that after the Bush Administration finished its final days with the growth of the "Tea Party", if you can call it a "group", has agitated itself into a Self-loathing Party that is throwing any one who might be a constituent under the preverbal "Bus" just to show how much they REALLY HATE everything. sigh. I used David's work once again....

Image "ONE"
Back to the beginning.... I have posted this a few times. There is nothing scandalous, nothing unusual, nothing that any other artist might do... look at the works of Banksy and this, too. And take a second look at what all the other conscious, "scribblers on the walls" artists are doing... though, most on the sides of buildings.... It has been said throughout the ages that you can learn more about a people and the state of their country not by the words printed, published and broadcast to the outside world by their leaders and upper class, but by what is splashed on the back walls and down dark alleys of buildings. The graffiti artist tells the truth.
I started this blog because of the lies The Bush Administration promulgated for the Iraq War, for peeping into people's lives, for torturing captives, for allowing the military to go rogue, for encouraging the worst in the republican party to dominate, the acts of violence on the civilians and women and children (which are hidden from view... until Wikileaks) and for letting the few Arabs do their dirty deeds on September 11, 2001 (Thank you, Condeleeza Rice for telling us truth, though after the fact.). These images are based on the works of art from the past - many are the treasures of this world because they touch the deepest fiber of our being.
These images emerge in my mind from the stories posted in the international news - not the news from the US (we don't report the truth about ourselves). The great artists saw what I have seen, and I have only merged today with what happened in the past. I am so sorry that we keep doing the same horrors over and over. It is too bad that we pretend that today is better, and worse, I suspect it is a product of biology and that most emanates from the 'y' chromosome.
One day, the Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon I and Coronation of the Empress Josephine in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, by one of my favorite painters, Jacques-Louis David, popped into my mind as I watched my country beat the drum for war in Iraq. The "Operation Enduring Freedom" smelled bad. Then I had to re-paint David's Coronation. It took weeks to do...
Napoleon commissioned David to paint a 10x6 meters demonstration of Napoleon's greatness and power to the world. The painting was completed in 1807. The actual Coronation was in December 2, 1804. But Napoleon's last campaign, The Russian Invasion of 1812 ended in disgrace in 1813....And for all the "talk" and bluff about how Napoleon planned things so carefully.... DO look at this chart created as a lesson against war....
